Don't be discouraged when you get a little bit desperate with The GIMP. It takes time to get accustomed to the menu structure and get familiar with its basic concepts. Naturally this lecture can only help you with the first steps, but I do hope that it has eased your access to The GIMP.
When you have problems with The GIMP there is lots of help on the net. In the web you can find lots of tutorials that focus on certain aspects of The GIMP. In book stores you can find some books on The GIMP, I wholeheartedly recommend Grokking the the GIMP by Carey Bunks, which is also available online and for download at http://gimp-savvy.com. It focuses on the basic image manipulation tasks and is beginner friendly.
If you want to contact the people behind The GIMP directly, feel free to come to IRC on irc.gimp.org in channel #gimp. If you prefer mail there are the mailing lists gimp-user and gimp-developer. Information about subscribing to them is available at http://www.gimp.org/mailing_list.html. You can also use the newsgroup comp.graphics.apps.gimp to contact the gimp community. If you have specific bug reports you can submit them to the GNOME Bug Tracker. But please make sure, that your bug is really new, because multiple reports on the same bug don't really help.
However, when you are using the stable release of The GIMP bugs are not very likely. I hope you had fun with this introduction and wish you much fun in using The GIMP.
